With its new programme, WWF is promoting easy access for local governments to increase energy efficiency in their cities. This includes smaller measures and quick-win actions as well as more systemic considerations related to urban planning.
The basic pillars are:- improve urban planning to reduce climate impact
- optimise building envelopes to reduce emissions and consumption
- produce green products and services
- raise awareness and inspire people to act
This is especially important as cities are responsible for 70% of energy consumption and emissions, but at the same time are the center of climate action to make changes for a more sustainable future.
The factsheets provide many examples of changes made in major cities all around the world.
